BA (Hons) Professional Music Units

THE PROFESSIONAL PROJECT
Work under the supervision of an assigned industry mentor to plan, organise and create a professional project in either solo performance, songwriting, music production, dissertation, event management or composition.
EMPLOYABILITY AND ENTERPRISE IN MUSIC Conceive an idea for a music event and then make it a reality. You will manage all aspects of the event including promotion, finance, health and safety, organisation and evaluation.
MUSIC AND THE MOVING IMAGE
You will have the opportunity to research music used in animation, film, TV or gaming, where you will then compose and record a soundtrack for a piece of moving image of your choice.
INDEPENDENT STUDY
Plan, create and promote a feasible music product of your choice, such as CD, book, teaching practice or masterclass service. You will create a business plan showing market research and product development alongside creating a website to promote the product.

OPTIONS
Production Project
Gain music production skills employed in the creation of professional recordings and insight into the work and production approaches of leading producers through analytical studies.
University Ensembles
You will develop and put into practice a weekly rehearsal schedule with a large and small ensemble group, leading up to a 25-minute live performance with each collective.

Entry Requirements

Foundation Degree in Performance or Production, or equivalent qualification such as HND, plus successful audition and interview. Applicants with relevant industry experience may be accepted through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Progression

You will be able to progress to study a Masters at postgraduate level. You will have honed your music-related skills to a professional standard either to enter the industry or build up your own business. As well as leaving with a comprehensive business plan, you will have gained an extensive transferable skill-set.

Audition & Interview

Our qualifications require a successful audition and interview to enrol onto a course, but don’t be nervous! The auditions are on a 1-1 basis to assess your future potential to see what you can do, rather than what you can’t. It’s a great chance for you to see the centre, meet our fantastic tutors and ask any questions. You’re coming to us to learn and improve your skills, so we appreciate everyone has their strengths.
