Employer: Soma Records is a Glasgow based techno and house label co-founded in 1991 by the electronic music duo Slam. Now in its 24th year, Soma has a reputation for consistent excellence in the record industry, continually releasing quality electronic music. Soma is regarded as one of the top UK independent record labels and one of Scotland’s best musical exports. To date Soma has released over 300 singles and 100 albums from international acts such as Slam, Deepchord, Petrichor, Daft Punk, Funk D’ Void, Gary Beck, Vector Lovers, The Black Dog and many more. This is an exciting (and very rare) opportunity to work with the label as it moves into its 25th year.
The Academy of Music and Sound will provide training to support the successful candidate as they progress through their apprenticeship and work towards a CBQ Diploma in Music Business
Work Environment: Working as part of a small team in central Glasgow.
What might a day in this job look like? The successful applicant will work at least 25 hours per week covering various responsibilities including production management, online store management (order fulfilment, stock taking, distribution and customer service), liaising with designers regarding artwork for releases and updating the Soma website.

What Qualifications / Qualities are required? There are no formal qualifications required. However, the successful candidate must be creative, driven towards a career in the music industry and able to work and solve problems independently. Candidates must be able to communicate to a wide range of stakeholders, providing an excellent standard of service and have a keen eye for detail. Some graphic design experience (knowledge of photoshop) would be beneficial, but not essential. Candidates will be expected to work to strict deadlines and be required to have a very high standard of organisational skills. As well as working closely with the Soma Records team, the successful candidate will also push innovate ideas forward and use strategic thinking to develop new initiatives.
The successful candidate will have experience working with Photoshop, Microsoft Office packages and will be comfortable working with Apple Mac software.
